A new culture is born and with it comes new habits and desires. This trend has been followed in Vietnam where more luxurious gyms are being built in order to meet both the locals and expats’ demands.
The society is changing very fast and with it, people’s lifestyle and perception of things also change. Before, gym were seen as a place where a few men go to become a derivative version of The Hulk. However, the times have definitely changed and since then we have entered a new era of fitness and health lifestyle living.
Nowadays, you can see all kinds of people at the gym both young and old, even retirees are using these new facilities in order to stay healthy. The image we have of fitness centers is totally different from before as the appearance and the physical image is crucial nowadays in the modern society. Most of the people just aim to become a better version of themselves and understood that, by going to the gym, they will be able to achieve this goal.
In 2015, there were over 180,000 gyms around the world which generated about US 84 billion dollars, according to the IHRSA.
As there is an increasing demand for fitness facilities, a new market is born which is based on creating “high-class gym” spaces. This industry is gaining in fame and never stops growing not only in Vietnam but in many countries around the world. As people are now prone to pay more in order to go to a better quality gym with more facilities, a lot of international brands and fitness chains start to pop up in Vietnam.
Around 9 years ago, this kind of modern gym arrived in Vietnam glad to the now famous California Fitness & Yoga followed by other brands such as Elite and Getfit Gym & Yoga. They have built many high-end gyms all around the country and allow members to train in any center they want whether when they are on holiday or on a business trip away from home.
The amount of modern gyms is still very low in Vietnam in comparison to some other Asian countries such as Thailand, China, or even Singapore. However, there is a continuous flow of international brands settling here as they have noticed the market gap. Experts say that it is likely that this model of luxurious fitness centers will grow over 50% in the next couple of years.
